The project “Orient2Work”

Evidence says that finding a job for a woman is harder than a man; for a woman with disability, sometimes impossible.
Looking at countries promoting this project, in Italy less than 50% of women works and (source 2021 Gender Report) when COVID started on 2020, employment for the first time fell to 49% against the EU average of 62.7 %. Today, the Italian gap between male and female employment is 18.2% despite of a 10.1 EU average. Female employment rate drops further for young women (33.5%) and women living in Southern Italy (32.5%). About women with disabilities, taking into account that the employment situation of all people with disabilities sees, out of 100 people aged 15-64 who are able to work, employed are only 35.8 (Source ANDEL).
Today, In France, women workers are 49%. However, women's employment conditions are less favorable than those of men (more part-time work, greater job insecurity, etc.), with a pay gap that is struggling to close around 25% less. In France, in January 2021, out of 6,501,330 jobseekers, 51% are women. Among people with disability, women are 49%. In Europe, France stands out because of a female activity rate in line with the EU average (68%) and a relatively high proportion of women working part-time (around 1/3). Terms of access to employment for women vary significantly between territories, penalized in rural areas where women's employment is concentrated in a smaller number of sectors of activity (health and social), often source of precarious jobs or affected by irregular working hours. In urban areas, social inequalities are more marked.
Women are more likely to experience periods of unemployment or even inactivity, despite a more diversified job offer.
In Spain, 84% of women with disabilities are unemployed (INE, 2021). That figure practically doubles the unemployment rate among men with disabilities. 76.41% of women with disabilities are classified as "inactive", relegating them to domestic responsibilities and family care.
In Turkey, women are 57% of person with disabilities. Some 35% of men are part of the country’s workforce compared to only 12.5% of women. Furthermore (source Engelli Kadin Dernegi), women who can get a job, despite the two-pronged prejudice against both women seeking employment and people with disabilities, are generally paid less than their male counterparts, disabled or otherwise.
Partners want to change the situation empowering instruments to overcome this gap. Among these, Orientation Activity it’s an important but underestimate tool of work which is worth to be rethought to promote employability for vulnerable people.
Project focus on how to overcome barriers and obstacles to promote inclusion of vulnerable women into labor market, granting them rights of citizens inside their communities.
To achieve this goal, Orientation is a great lever for it’s the first step in the process of finding job opportunities according to vocations and skills, strengthening training and educational paths; to reduce failures and problems related to inclusion process.
Concretely, according to priorities and topics, partners indicated these objectives:
1) Increasing number of job opportunities for vulnerable women in terms of sustainability for users and efficiency for results (number of job positions) integrating the single paths of orientation from each partner. Outputs: gathering shared best practices from partners and their countries; designing and testing a model of intervention in a handbook with a guideline and specifical indicators.
2) Realizing a platform online customized to support staffs at work to consolidate partnerships work, keep on sharing best practices and results, promoting studies and research, activating training courses.
3) Involving and directly engaging with mobilities and local activities professionals and women (beneficiaries), stakeholders. Through mass media and activities, partners will light up the project: press releases at every event in each country, through website and social media project’s results disseminated through a specific plan.
Selected horizontal priority fits projects’ objectives as Orientation is important for social inclusion and very difficult to play as evidence says. It deals with training, education, transition school/work, and even with stigma and discriminations too.
As additional priority partners need to assure quality in adult education, especially for vulnerable woman. For this reason, it will be defined a new approach, through identification of some indicators to draw common lines to manage educational/training paths in terms of social inclusion.
The handbook above mentioned, will address VET priority, with “useful tools” to realize educational/training path, personalized and tailored according to the potential of women to support.
Topics are targeted as project looks with its activities to professionals involved in career guiding, promoting employability for vulnerable women, and overcoming discriminations about gender and disabilities.
Finally, the project is GREEN: monitored carbon footprint; DIGITAL: activities run and followed online, "paper free"; SUSTAINABLE: tasks and budget strictly monitored in terms of economic and social impact with shared indicators.
